Overboard...or not?

So I get this notion every now and then that perhaps I've gone a little overboard with my shopping.  I suppose one of the reasons I've been thinking about it lately is because of the tiniest smattering of a certain clothing article I've been buying recently.  First let me preface my "confession," with the following statements:

1.  I'm tall.
2.  I am limited in length of clothing articles.
3.  When certain favored clothing pieces come in style, I must buy.
4.  When certain favored clothing pieces are in store in multiple styles...I must buy.
5.  I must buy every one I see that I like.
6.  I must haunt all other stores in search of similar articles of clothing before they run out.
7.  I MUST BUY THEM!

The object(s) of my affection...MAXI DRESSES!!!

Sizing

What is with sizing these days?  Can the clothing companies just agree on measurements for clothes that are standard for each size?  I bought this top at Macys.com.  The color, called peacock blue, caught my eye along with the way it draped on the model.  It's kind of a slub tshirt material with dolman sleeves that drapes extremely well.  I know it's made to be oversized, but this was way too big (unless I wear it with a belt - hence the self-tie belt I added to the picture).  After trying it on, I packaged it back up for a return.  In the meantime, another wild sale hit Macys.com (or else it was just a wild night of shopping for me).  I went ahead and ordered the next size down in the same shirt before it went out of stock.  The original size was so large that I thought maybe I'd have to order 2 sizes down.  I received the new top today and it just barely fits.  There is at least a 4 inch difference in width between the two sizes (and that's 4 inches x2, so really 8 inches total).  It would sure be nice if these sizes were standardized!  But do you know what my dream sizing would be?  For plus size clothing to have a suggested shape, such as fits pear shape or hourglass shape, apple shaped, etc.!  Can you imagine how many less returns there would be?  Okay, okay, I don't suppose that kind of size-shaping will ever happen.

Great ring to brighten up an ordinary outfit! I bought the multi-colored one. I see these odd rings like this on all the style blogs so I've started buying them too! The only thing I didn't like about it is that it's larger than it appears.

Aging

There are many different things that happen as we age.  Skin loses its elasticity and starts looking like crinkled newspapers, breasts (yes, boobs) start to sag and suddenly are laser-pointed towards our toes, and finally, possibly the least of an older woman's problems, is that our hair starts to get coarse and darkens to look eerily like a mud puddle on a dismal day.  While the first two issues are not as easily fixed, the muddy looking hair just might have a chance.  I'm not familiar with coloring or highlighting my hair.  I wouldn't have a clue how to do that, and frankly --- I'd be scared to death that my hair would turn out green or something.  So when I saw a new product by John Frieda I decided to give it a try.  It's a combination of three products; a hair lightening shampoo, lightening conditioner, and a heat activated lightening spray.  I've been using these 3 products for about 3-4 weeks now, and I think my aging hair is looking like California sun-kissed blonde again!  I don't know if it would work for ladies that weren't once-upon-a-time natural blondes, but it sure worked for me!  I'm grateful to John Frieda, plus I'm secretly praying that after using this for a few months, maybe I'll look like I'm 30 again instead of almost 50.

Designer Bandaids!

Just a quick cool item to tell you about.  I bought a new outfit for my grandbaby a few days ago at Old Navy.  Very cute.  I'm waiting in line to pay and you know they have all those doodads designed to tempt you to buy more while you wait to pay.  Well, it worked. Now at the grocery store I would've balked at paying $5 for a tin of bandaids, but not this time! I looked over and there were bandaids in zebra and leopard prints!  So if you want some cute, designer looking bandaids ---- Old Navy is your place to be!!!

Garage Sale

Hi.  I've been on vacation this past week (plus today thank goodness).  I had a list of things to get done while on vacation --- and I just now remembered that I actually wrote a list out!  Oh well.  Best laid plans....  I did have my garage sale though and through my daughter's awesome help in setting up tables and carrying the majority of the stuff out --- we did pretty well.  Earned about $200. After the sale was over, I took about 6 quilts back inside and a couple of other things, but that's it.  We put the leftovers out on the lawn and put a "Free Garage Sale Leftovers" ad on Craigslist.  Within 2 hours, most of it was gone!  I love Craigslist!  (See craigslist.org ).

Nothing to do with Fashion

While this is only semi-related to fashion, it's quite related to shopping! I thought I'd tell you about my latest finds.  You know that cheap store called the " Dollar Tree?"   I found the best lip "shimmer" there!  I picked up a couple of lip products to try. I thought, what the heck, it's only a buck!  A couple of years ago L'Oreal discontinued my lipstick and color, so I've been on a search for a new one since my stash of those ran out.  I've tried different colors and different brands.  Nothing compared to that color and product that matched my skin tone so perfectly.  So when I picked up those two lipsticks at the Dollar Tree, I certainly didn't expect any sort of success!  The first one was actually a lipstick and it was way too dark (not pictured here).  I looked like a gothic housewife.  Threw that one out.  Then I tried the lip "shimmer".  It's actually in between a gloss and a lipstick.  Ding ding ding winner!!!  It's "Sally Hansen Natural Butter Lip Shimmer" and the color is Bliss (top one in the picture).  It almost makes my lips look naturally that red which will be good for during the day at work or for a night time going out look.  I went back and bought 3 more Bliss Lip Shimmers, plus picked up another color called Aura (bottom shimmer in the picture).  This color is more for that casual look, almost the natural look that is in right now, but I like a little more color on my lips than "natural" and this fits that look.  While I haven't found that these shimmers bleed, at my age my lips are starting to get little creases along the outer edges, so for work wear I will probably apply a lipstick that doesn't bleed first and then this perfect Sally Hansen $1 Lip Shimmer! But so far on vacation I've been wearing it by itself.  Oddly enough it has even stayed on while eating! I just found and ordered 24 of them on ebay (all still sealed of course).  I'll be set for a couple of years again.  Thank you to the Dollar Tree!

Oh p.s., the second find at The Dollar Tree was a Spiderman ice pack for my grandbaby.  They are about 4-5inches tall x 3 inches wide.  We've already tried one and they are pliable and comfortable for him!

Vacation Shopping!

Oh dear.  Have zipcar, will shop.  Get zipcar, so can shop.  You get the point.  I reserved the zipcar yesterday (Saturday) --- so I went shopping!  I went to Macy's and bought 2 outrageously inexpensive tops and 1 expensive top.  I haven't quite got to taking pictures of them yet.  They had 50% off their clearance, including their jewelry.  Here are some pictures of the rings I bought --- 1 was $3.50, the 2nd one was $5, and the animal print one was $16!  I now have 3 animal(?) rings; a bee, a snake, and now an alligator too!  These new rings below are each really unique and I'm glad I can pull off such different styles!! I added a side view of the apricot colored one so you could see how it's set up on the setting.  Of course my favorite of the 3 is the zebra one!  (Sorry the pic is a little fuzzy - I'll try to take a better one this week!)  Well, off to bed now, it's 2:44 a.m.....
